Two hundred and fifty-two pieces, five hundred, or a thousand. It arrives in a rigid matte black box, and the lid carries the same picture — so they know what they are building before they start, and they build it anyway. Ours goes under the cutter unless you hand us theirs, with their blessing. A line along the top and a line along the bottom, which arrive as pieces like everything else. The thousand takes most of a weekend. That is most of a weekend of a friend's face, assembled by hand, at a kitchen table, voluntarily.
